CDC updates RSV vaccination recommendation for adults

The CDC has updated its recommendations for adults ages 60 and older about getting the RSV vaccine.

ATLANTA — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated its recommendation on the use of the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccines for adults 60 and older who did not get the vaccine last year.

CDC recommends that everyone  75 and up receive the vaccine. Adults ages 60-74 who are at increased risk for RSV - such as having chronic medical conditions or living in a nursing home - should also receive the vaccine.

The RSV vaccine is not currently an annual vaccine, so those who got it last year are exempt from this recommendation. Immunizations were available for the first time last year for people with increased risk - including infants and children - and adults 60 and older.

Eligible adults can get the RSV vaccine any time, but CDC says the best time is in late summer or early fall before RSV usually starts to spread.
