Change coming for medical marijuana cards in Georgia

What do these cards do? They allow patients who use medical cannabis to obtain low-THC oil.

ATLANTA — A change is coming to medical marijuana cards in Georgia.

The Georgia Department of Public Health said that medical cannabis cards will now be valid for five years rather than just two years.

What do these cards do? They allow patients who use medical cannabis to obtain low-THC oil.

Cardholders can also now order and pay through a new online portal system and get the card shipped right to their door.

However, there is one caveat with all the new changes. The price of the card is going up. It will now cost you $30 for five years. They previously cost $25.

People with cancer, AIDS, Alzheimer's disease and chronic pain are just some of those eligible for medical cannabis cards. Still, you must get position certification -- it is the only way to legally get medical marijuana in Georgia.
