MURRAY COUNTY, Ga. — Officials with Murray County Schools said a teacher and another elementary school student are under quarantine after being around people diagnosed with the COVID-19 strain of the coronavirus, according to reports.
According to 11Alive's NBC affiliate WRCB in Chattanooga, school officials say a Spring Place Elementary teacher’s elderly father, who lives in the Atlanta area, tested positive for COVID-19 “within the past couple of days.”
The district said the teacher visited her father during the weekend of March 1, and was on school grounds before her father was diagnosed. The teacher is now in quarantined at her family's home in Atlanta, and has so far shown no signs of the illness. Her quarantine ends on Saturday, the district reportedly said, if she continues to be asymptomatic.
Meanwhile, the elementary school student is believed to have made contact with a person who has coronavirus while the student was attending an event out of town. The district says health officials have recommended that the student should self-quarantine until March 14.
Though the two people are imposing a self-quarantine, they have not been confirmed to have the virus. The state, so far, has confirmed six positive cases of COVID-19, though there are several other presumptive-positive cases.
