ATLANTA — The Andrew J. Young Foundation says they've been receiving many messages of concern after reports that Ambassador Andrew Young came down with coronavirus a week earlier.
But while the concern is appreciated, the organization says they're unnecessary. It turns out that another ambassador of the same name is the one who is sick - not the former Atlanta mayor.
The Foundation decided to try and dispel some of the rumors on its Facebook page on Saturday and assure everyone that their ambassador was safe - even as cases of coronavirus spread across Georgia.
It turns out that the person in question is Andrew Robert Young, the ambassador to the African nation of Burkina Faso.
R. Young confirmed his diagnosis on Twitter on March 22 and said that the U.S. Embassy there had taken steps to quarantine affected community members. He hasn't updated the public on his condition since that post.
"Ambassador Andrew J. Young is well and hopes the very best for Ambassador Andrew R. Young," the organization wrote on Facebook.
