GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Georgia's shelter-in-place order does allow for people to still go out to the grocery store, but many people have been asking if it's safe?
Gov. Brian Kemp's order specifically recommends getting grocery delivery or curbside pickup.
A family doctor in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jeffrey VanWingen, has created a YouTube video with tips about what you can do when you bring your groceries home from the store and what to do if have them delivered.
"For groceries, I think it's wise to use a delivery service if you can. Pay upfront. Avoid giving cash tips.," he said.
"Instruct the person delivering to leave the groceries at your door," he added.
He said if you are going to the store, make a list of the things you need and practice social distancing while you are there.
"Get up to two weeks of groceries to minimize your need to go to the grocery store," he suggested.
"If you pick something up commit to buy that so you're not putting your hands on things that are going to be lingering on the shelf," he said.
His advice is to discard all of the packagings and wipe down as much as you can.
"I want you to imagine there might be a little bit of glitter on groceries as you bring them into your home," he said. "And our goal is to not have any glitter in our house, on our hands, and especially not our face."
In the video, VanWingen takes some of the products and wipes them down. Another technique he suggested is to put the food into storage containers. Once you are done, wipe down your space and wash your hands thoroughly.
VanWingen has more tips in his video that you can watch on YouTube.
