11Alive employee tests positive for coronavirus
Georgia's lastest coronavirus case count has reached 620 confirmed across the state. One of those cases in Fulton County is an employee here at 11Alive. We have taken all precautions as recommended by the CDC.
All employees who were identified as having direct contact are in self-quarantine. This is another example that we are all in this together.
Uber adds discounts for rides headed to APS food distribution centers
Atlanta Public Schools and the rideshare company Uber have teamed up to help make sure students are getting the food they need - even while school is out.
The school system announced on Sunday that, through April 10, Uber will be providing discounted rides to food distribution centers set up by APS. Uber will offer a 25 percent discount up to $10 for trips to or from the pickup locations beginning Monday and continuing through April 10.
The promo code "APS2020" will be available for use Monday through Friday during meal service times from 10 a.m. to noon. It will be for any UberX or UberXL trip to or from the pickup location.
To redeem the ride discount:
1. Open your app and tap “Payment” in your app menu
2. Scroll down to Promotions
3. Tap “Add Promo Code”
4. Enter code APS2020 then tap “Add”
5. Select any of the pickup locations listed above as your destination
The trips are good for two rides per rider per day. The discount does not apply to surcharges, government fees, tolls or tips and cannot be combined with other officers or discounts. The offer is also non-transferable and is subject to change without notice.
620 cases, 25 deaths in latest update
The latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Public Health show yet another increase in coronavirus cases in Georgia. At 7 p.m., the state agency said there are now 620 confirmed cases and 25 deaths.
The new breakdowns also show that 60 percent of the cases are in people between 18 and 59. 36 percent are 60 and older.
Fulton County continues to lead in total cases with 111 with Cobb following with 67 and Bartow with 56. DeKalb has 53 and Dougherty has 52.
Goodwill of North Georgia closing stores for two weeks
Goodwill of North Georgia says it is closing all of their stores, their attended donation center and career centers for the next two weeks, starting Monday, March 23.
The charitable organization says it plans to continue to accept donations at its store donor doors on Monday through Saturday form 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Job seekers are advised to continue to use Goodwill's career services online at CareerConnector.org.
Total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Georgia rises to 600; 23 deaths reported in the state
As of noon on Sunday, the Georgia Department of Public Health reports a total of 600 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the state of Georgia. Fulton County has the most cases with 108, followed by Cobb with 61. Bartow County has 57, Dougherty County has 48, DeKalb County has 45 and Gwinnett County has 27.
The number of deaths in the state from COVID-19 has gone up to 23.
Pike Nurseries suspending in-store operations; offering delivery, curbside service
Atlanta-based Pike Nurseries said early Sunday that it is suspending in-store operations effective immediately as a result of the expanding COVID-19 outbreak.
"All store locations will now exclusively offer delivery and curbside pick-up from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.," the chain said in a release. "Customers can complete an online form or call their local store to order, and a Pike Nurseries employee-owner will return the call to personally consult on the request and finalize the order."
With regard to COVID-19, Pike's management team says they are carefully monitoring the evolving situation and continuing to follow the cleaning and safety guidelines from the CDC and World Health Organization, as well as federal and state officials.
Coronavirus cases rise to 555, deaths to 20
The number of deaths and cases of coronavirus in Georgia has jumped once again. The latest report at 7 p.m. shows the state now has 555 confirmed cases and 20 deaths.
Fulton County is responsible for 99 of the total cases with Bartow County representing the second most followed by Cobb with 50, Dougherty with 47 and DeKalb with 41.
