Here's what Atlanta area churches and synagogues are doing for holiday services

Places of worship are offering online services to reach congregants during the coronavirus pandemic.

ATLANTA — With major holidays in both Christianity and Judaism falling this week, houses of worship that cannot welcome their congregants are trying to adjust and turning to online services.

Here are what some major religious institutions around the Atlanta area are doing to reach congregant (below is a small selection of area services. Have one you want to tell us about? Email news@11alive.com):

Archdiocese of Atlanta

The dozens of parishes under the Archdiocese have a range of regular services streaming online.

For the Holy Week services, streamed from the Cathedral of Christ the King, the Archdiocese is broadcasting at livestream.com/archatl/holyweek on this schedule:

  • Holy Thursday - 7 p.m. (bilingual)
  • Good Friday - noon (bilingual) and 3 p.m.
  • Saturday vigil - 8 p.m. (bilingual)
  • Easter Sunday - 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. (Spanish) and 2 p.m.

The Temple

The Temple's full calendar is available here. Here are services being held over Zoom this week:

  • Tonight: First Night Passover Seder - 6 p.m. (a mini Passover Seder for small children and families is at 5:15 p.m.)
  • Thursday: Passover Morning Worship - 10:30 a.m.
  • Thursday: Second Night Seder with Temple Sinai - 6 p.m.
  • Next Wednesday: Yizkor Passover Service - 10:30 a.m.

North Point Community Church

Easter service will be streaming live at northpoint.org/live beginning at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Ahavath Achim Synagogue

The Buckhead synagogue has a schedule of services available here. They are also hosting services on Zoom.

  • Tonight: Virtual Family Seder - 5:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: Passover Day 1 Service - 9:30 a.m.
  • Friday: Passover Day 2 Service - 9:30 a.m.
  • Monday: Virtual Hunger Seder, helping benefit local food organizations - 7:30 p.m.
  • Next Wednesday: Passover Day 7 Service - 7:15 a.m.
  • Next Thursday: Passover Yizkor Service - 9:30 a.m.

Ebenezer Baptist Church

Hosting an online communion service for Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m. with Easter Sunday service at 9 a.m. Available at ebenezeratl.org/watch.

New Birth Missionary Baptist Church 

Easter service will be online at newbirth.org/live starting at 9:30 a.m.

Temple Sinai

Temple Sinai's schedule for Zoom services during Passover is available here.

  • Tonight: First Night Seder - 6 p.m.
  • Thursday: Passover Service - 10:00 a.m.
  • Thursday: Second Night Passover Service - 6 p.m.
  • Next Wednesday: Passover Yizkor Service - 10 a.m.

World Changers Church International

Easter Sunday service will begin at 10 a.m. and is available on Facebook, YouTube, the church website, and on the Creflo Dollar Ministries app.

Free Chapel 

The church is offering a Good Friday service at noon available on multiple social media channels and Easter services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
