Parts of three Fulton cities remain under boil water advisory

Officials said Saturday morning that the 30-inch water main has been repaired, but work is still ongoing to ensure the quality of the water in the line before the advisory is lifted.

A boil water advisory remains in effect across three Fulton County cities after attempts to bypass a damaged 30-inch water main actually caused more damage.

Parts of Fairburn, Union City and South Fulton are being asked to boil their water for practically any use after a drilling device collapsed on Friday and caused a loss of water - and water pressure.

The device was being used to repair a 30-inch water main on Butner Road near Camp Creek Parkway as the city installed a temporary bypass.

But while the hope was to prevent an interruption in water service, the Friday repair attempt and resulting damage actually caused the water pressure to drop so low that officials issued a precautionary advisory to several residents.

Officials said Saturday morning that the 30-inch water main has been repaired, and work is ongoing to ensure the quality of the water in the line before the advisory is lifted.

The main areas impacted by the advisory are those served by the Stonewall Tell water tank supply. So, residents from Camp Creek Parkway to the north all the way to South Fulton Parkway to the west and inside the Fulton County boundaries to the south and east are being advised to boil water - especially for eating, drinking and preparing food for others.

Authorities stressed that Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is not included in the advisory.

Watershed Management will be following its system flushing protocols as a precaution and will sample the affected areas to check for contamination.
