ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves Foundation and Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Metro Atlanta surprised the executive assistant to the Austell police chief on Tuesday with the news that she would receive her own home.
Quintasha Swanson was told on Tuesday that the home will be built by volunteers from Habitat for Humanity and members of the Atlanta Braves front office staff.
Following the announcement by the foundation and Habitat for Humanity chapter, a celebration was held, featuring a performance by the Atlanta Braves Heavy Hitters and remarks from the organization's leaders. Additionally, Austell Chief of Police Orrin Scott Hamilton and City of Austell Mayor Ollie Clemmons attended the event to congratulate Swanson.
“We’re here in support of you. We love you," Clemmons said. "We want to celebrate you. We want to make sure that you know that you are Austell. As was said, you’ll be able to live, work and play right here in Austell."
Swanson will be the first in her family to own a home. According to the Braves' press release, she is excited to share it with her adopted daughter, Angel, and leave a legacy for her.
"I'm so excited about it. I applied with Habitat [for Humanity] about a year ago and I've just trusted this process, waited patiently and now it's about to happen," said Swanson.
Construction on Swanson’s house begins in July, and a dedication ceremony will be held when it is completed at the end of September.
