How many of your child's courses are taught by underqualified teachers? Here's how to check

Our searchable database shows the percentage of courses in the 2017-2018 school year that were taught by underqualified teachers in Georgia public schools.

For the first time in the state's history, the Georgia Department of Education released records earlier this year identifying how many courses at public schools were taught by teachers who were teaching out of field last year.

In other words, courses are being led by instructors who were not certified in the subject areas they were teaching.

Our 11Alive Reveal investigation uncovered the quality of your child's classroom instruction could be significantly different depending on where you live in Georgia. And that's not good news for poor and rural communities.

WATCH | Monday on UpLate we break down the numbers and see how students feel their being impacted

Use our searchable database below to see how many courses are taught by underqualified teachers in your child's school.

HOW TO USE:

  • Step 1: Click on the dropdown box named, “School District,” and find your school district by alphabetical order. If you want to view results for all of the schools in that district, click “search.”
  • Step 2: Click on the dropdown box named, “School Name,” and find your school and click “search.” By picking a school name here, the results will only yield one school’s results at a time.

The Reveal is an investigative show exposing inequality, injustice, and ineptitude created by people in power throughout Georgia and across the country.  It airs Sunday nights at 6 on 11Alive.
