1 killed in DeKalb County house fire, officials say

According to officials, the fire happened at a home at the 1600-block of Flintwood Drive SE.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A man is dead after a fire at a Decatur home Sunday afternoon, DeKalb County Fire Rescue said.

According to officials, the fire happened at a home at the 1600-block of Flintwood Drive SE near I-20 and Gresham Road around 4 p.m.

11Alive had a crew on scene where around 30 firefighters responded to the fire. Smoke was seen coming from the home's roof and the inside of the home was also charred.

A spokesperson for DeKalb County Fire Rescue said a person was trapped inside and did not make it out.

"There was a resident in the front yard upon our units' arrival that stated his brother was known to smoke in bed. It is under investigation, so we don't have those exact facts just yet, but that's what was reported from the actual resident," Captain Jaeson Daniels said.

The victim of the fire has not yet been identified.

This is a developing story, we'll continue to update as we learn more.
