ATLANTA — Nearly 150 animals were rescued from a property in southeast Georgia, according to the Atlanta Humane Society on Thursday.
Units from the animal protection organization were called out to assist a property where almost 150 cats and dogs were "living outside in pens in their own filth, roaming free inside a house, and in kennels inside a carport."
"The animals had mange and small wounds on their bodies, and many of them had fleas," the organization said and provided photos and videos of the animals' living conditions.
Animals were not being separated, with many chihuahua mixes, medium-breed dogs and cats walking about. The humane society brought 29 of the dogs back to put them up for adoption.
An adoption promotion is taking place at the shelter to make space for the new animals; the organization said that all adult dogs and cats have $0 adoption fees through Sunday, October 15.
The Atlanta Humane Society said the remaining animals rescued from the property were divided among other animal welfare organizations.
