2 dead after four-vehicle crash on I-75 in Marietta, police say

The wreck happened just south of South Marietta Parkway around 2 a.m. Saturday. The crash closed all lanes, and crews worked past 6 a.m. to clear it.

MARIETTA, Ga. — A deadly four-car pile-up on Interstate 75 north in Cobb County killed two people early Saturday morning and left two others seriously injured, police said.

The wreck happened just south of South Marietta Parkway around 2 a.m. Saturday. The crash closed all lanes, and crews worked past 6 a.m. to clear it.

The crash investigation shows that the driver of a 2023 black Chrysler Pacifica was rear-ended by a black 2016 Acura ILX driven by 33-year-old Carl Moore of Lake Park, Georgia.

Police said the Chrysler came to a stop on the right-hand shoulder while the Acura rotated and ended up uncontrolled in the northbound lanes, with the car facing sideways, pointing east.

With the car in the middle of the interstate, a black 2015 Audi Q5 collided with the Acura, while the driver of a white 2022 Freightliner Cascadia truck with a 53-foot van trailer wrecked into both the Acura and the Audi.

Moore, the driver of the Acura, was pronounced dead on scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner, police said. The passenger in the Acura, James Mettle, was also pronounced dead. Police did not give his age.

The driver and passenger of the Audi were both rushed to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The drivers and passengers inside the Chrysler and Freightliner were all uninjured, according to Cobb County Police.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what led to the deadly crash.

Next of kin has been notified.
