BUTTS COUNTY, Ga. — Three people are hospitalized after a plane crashed into a tree in Butts County on Monday evening.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a twin-engine Lockheed 12A plane crashed while the pilot was trying to land at Seven Lakes Airport in Jackson around 8 p.m.

The Butts County Sheriff's Office said that the airplane had three people in it and that it went off the runway -- hitting a tree. The sheriff's office added that deputies worked to get the occupants out of the plane and stabilize all three of them. They have been life-flighted to area hospitals, and their conditions are currently unknown.

"I am asking the community to pray for the three injured in the crash and their families," Butts County Sheriff Gary Long said in a social media post. "They have a long road to recovery."

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be investigating this crash.
