TIFT COUNTY, Ga. — Five people were killed in a crash on Interstate 75 North in middle Georgia on Tuesday, according to Georgia State Patrol troopers.

11Alive's NBC affiliate WALB reported that five people died, including a 22-year-old from Atlanta, following the wreck that happened in Tift County just after 6:30 p.m. near mile marker 69.

GSP said that the crash investigation revealed that a vehicle was driving in the center lane of I-75 when the driver failed to maintain the lane and crashed into the back of a parked tractor-trailer sitting on the right shoulder of the interstate.

The driver of the car and three passengers inside were pronounced dead at the scene, and the fourth passenger was rushed to a local hospital where they ultimately died, WALB reported.

The only passenger to have been identified is 22-year-old Serigne Mbodji of Atlanta. The others are in the process of being identified, and next of kin have not been notified, according to WALB.
