6-year-old in stable condition after being hit by car near school, officials say

Altana Fire Rescue Department said crews were called out to Wesley International Academy at 211 Memorial Dr. SE.

ATLANTA — A 6-year-old child was taken to the hospital after being hit by a car near his school on Monday morning, according to Atlanta Police and the Fire Rescue Departments. 

Altana Fire Rescue Department said crews were called out to Wesley International Academy at 211 Memorial Dr. SE after receiving reports that a child had been hit by a car. 

When officials arrived around 8:03 a.m., they had the child checked over by emergency personnel before being taken for further treatment by Grady Memorial Hospital EMS. Fire officials also added that the child is a student at the academy. 

Atlanta Police Department said the driver of the car who hit the child stayed at the scene and is unharmed. The seriousness of the child's injuries is unknown, but officials did say their condition was stable or that nothing has worsened since the crash. 

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
