COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- An inmate at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center was found dead in his cell early Friday, according to sheriff's officials.
George Gengarelly, 63, was found unresponsive at around 4 a.m. Jail officials did not immediately say how Gengarelly died, but sheriff's officials said it was "an apparent suicide."
He was arrested earlier this year in Florida and charged in the rape and murder of Yvonne Weems. The 37-year-old victim was found shot to death in a recreational area off Lake Acworth Drive on Jan. 12, 1991. Cobb County Police used DNA evidence to link Gengarelly to the crime.
Gengarelly faced charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, rape, aggravated sodomy and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
