SNELLVILLE, Ga – Aimee Copeland's journey beyond the flesh eating bacteria that changed her life now brings her to the side of an ailing former Marine.
Copeland is helping raise money for Karl Reising, a 60-year-old friend who has suffered a massive stroke.
"That's what I'm hoping to do is rally people around him, bring him that positive energy," said Copeland.
Since her tragic encounter with a flesh eating bacteria, Aimee Copeland's spirit has grown. So has her grit.
She's walking more than a mile on her prosthetics. Her hobbies now include kayaking.
She's come far enough to offer hope to Karl Reising and his family.
"Aimee has been such an inspiration," said Dee Reising. "It helps people like me know there's a light at the end of the tunnel."
Just as others helped alter her home to accommodate the changes in her life, Aimee Copeland wants the same for Karl Reising. She's started a fundraising page on her friend's behalf on at www.youcaring.com. She'll attend a benefit concert this weekend.
The concert will be held Saturday at 7 p.m., at the Brenau Amphitheatre in Gainesville.
Reising has two sons, ages 17 and 20. His left side is paralyzed. He'll need medical equipment and care.
"This is going to be crucial for Karl being able to get back in his home, into a familiar environment. It's going to be so important for his recovery," said Copeland.
