Air conditioning malfunctioning at Clayton County jail with some areas at 90 degrees: sheriff's office

Maintenance is currently working to fix the issue, the sheriff's office said.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Clayton County Jail is experiencing issues with its air conditioning on Sunday night, the sheriff's office said.

According to the sheriff's office, the HVAC units at the jail are malfunctioning. Temperatures are currently as low as 79.5 degrees in some areas and 90.7 degrees in others.

The daily temperature setting inside the jail is an average of 72 degrees, the sheriff's office said.

The Facility Maintenance and Management Services are provided by CGL Facilities Management, LLC. This is contracted by the Clayton County Board of Commissioners. CGL has been called in to fix the issue, the sheriff's office said.

After troubleshooting, it's been reported that a valve arm on a chiller came loose. Maintenance reattached the arm, and CGL will be onsite until the temperatures get to a more comfortable level, according to the sheriff's office.
