Gwinnett fire crews battle apartment fire, flames at strip mall in same morning

No one was hurt in either incident.

SNELLVILLE, Ga. — Gwinnett County crews battled two separate fires Wednesday morning. Firefighters were called to an apartment complex and later a business.

Four people and six pets were displaced in the first fire, according to authorities.

Firefighters were called to the apartment building on the 2600 block of Spruce Circle in Gwinnett County just before 9 a.m.

A caller described there to be smoke coming from the windows and a roof line of the unit and said no one was answering the apartment's door, according to authorities.

Fire crews said they found the fire on the second floor. Once they found the source of the flames, they went inside the unit and found a woman sleeping on a couch. Firefighters woke her up by forcing their way inside the apartment, they said, and helped her get out.

Fire officials said the unit didn't have a working smoke alarm. They have determined the cause of the flames to be electrical.

As firefighters put the last of the flames out and finished working the scene, crews dispatched to a business fire around 10:30 a.m.

Gwinnett County firefighters arrived to see smoke coming from a restaurant in a strip mall at 4051 Stone Mountain Highway SW, the agency said.

After pinpointing the fire in the kitchen, crews worked to put out the flames. Their efforts impacted eight businesses near the restaurant, firefighters said, but fire damage was ultimately contained to the kitchen area and determined it was all because of a cooking fire.

No one was hurt in either incident.
