LA PAZ COUNTY, Ariz. — A California woman who went missing in late February has been found dead in western Arizona, according to the La Paz County Sheriff's Office.

26-year-old Amanda Nenigar was reported missing by her family on Feb. 28. She was last seen in Blythe, California, a town on Interstate 10 just west of the California-Arizona border, according to a missing person poster released by LPCSO.

The sheriff's office said on March 12 that Nenigar's car was found in a remote area south of the town of Cibola, however, they did not find Nenigar at the time.

On Saturday, LPCSO announced that Nenigar was found dead late Friday evening. The sheriff's office did not release any other details, including how she was located, but did say the investigation into her death is still open and an autopsy will be performed to determine her cause of death.

Nenigar's family confirmed the news in a statement in the "Find Amanda Nenigar" group on Facebook. The entire statement is below.

Good morning everyone.

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone that helped in the search for Amanda Nenigar.

The family is incredibly grateful to have people like each of you who have volunteered and dedicated their time and resources into finding her.

It is with a heavy heart that we must report to you all, she was found deceased last night, Friday March 29th 2024, and is no longer a missing persons case.

We have many questions and have been informed that her death is being investigated and an autopsy will follow.

Our hearts are broken and we will miss her dearly. Please grant our family privacy as we mourn the loss of Amanda and prepare for the days ahead of us.

LPCSO is now asking for people to not call 911 and ask for updates on Nenigar. They will release updates through news outlets and on their Facebook page "when deemed appropriate."

This is a developing story and more details will be added when they are made available.
