HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — An "armed and dangerous" suspect has been taken into custody after an hours-long manhunt in Habersham County Monday, authorities said.
The Habersham County Sheriff's Office said law enforcement took the 50-year-old into custody near the Tom Arrendale Interchange outside of Clarkesville and Mt. Airy.
Authorities said the manhunt happened after a traffic stop went wrong.
A Georgia State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a car the man was in on GA 365 when a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, the car went into oncoming traffic on GA 365 and GA 17 before it crashed. The suspect then ran away from the scene.
Troopers also said the man is wanted for a violent crime in Athens-Clark County.
GSP said he was located with the help of a drone. Several agencies including Georgia DNR, Rabun County Sheriff deputies, Georgia DOC K-9 Support, among other agencies, also assisted with the search.
