GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Two arrests have been made in connection to a 16-year-old girl's fentanyl-related overdose death, the Gwinnett County Police Department announced on Friday.
Authorities said Dino Bonasera, 17, of Atlanta, was taken into custody, charged as an adult and is facing the following charges:
- Felony murder
- Aggravated involuntary manslaughter by causing fentanyl overdose death
- Sale of a controlled substance
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Use of communication facility in commission of a felony involving controlled substances
Gwinnett Police also said a 16-year-old from Atlanta was also arrested, but they did not identify her. The police department said the 16-year-old is being charged as an adult and is facing the following charges:
- Felony murder
- Aggravated involuntary manslaughter by causing a fentanyl overdose death
- Sale of a controlled substance and use of communication facility in commission of a felony involving controlled substances
According to the police department, there's been a 30% decline in deadly overdoses so far in the county this year. The department's narcotics unit continues to focus its efforts on narcotics dealers, which has resulted in a 60% increase in fentanyl-related arrests in the county, according to the police department.
