ATLANTA — An airman from Atlanta stationed at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas, was killed after he was hit by an Amtrak train on Tuesday night.
11Alive's Cody Alcorn spoke to the Val Verde County Sheriff, who said 24-year-old Second Lieutenant James Chitika was across town from the base, about two miles outside Del Rio, when he was struck by the train.
The sheriff said that Chitika was seen walking on the tracks, and his truck was found about three miles away.
The sheriff also told 11Alive that there are still many questions that need to be answered, and his office is working with the Air Force and Amtrak on the investigation.
