Flames spark at Atlanta high-rise, officials say

The fire happened at a high-rise apartment complex called Landmark Condominium.

ATLANTA — Atlanta firefighters are responding to an apartment fire on Piedmont Avenue Wednesday evening.

Around 6:12 p.m., the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department was dispatched to 215 Piedmont Avenue NE after reports of a fire. The address is listed as a high-rise apartment complex called Landmark Condominium.

The fire has been extinguished, but the scene is still active.

According to the assistant chief of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, Gary Robb, seven people had minor smoke inhalation. No one has been sent to the hospital at this time.

Corey Rowe came to stay at the complex last night. He heard a beep and didn't pay much mind to it until a heavier response came.

"We're safe. Waiting to see. I don't know if I want to go back inside or at least get my stuff," Rowe added.

There's no current knowledge about any residents being displaced, according to Assistant Chief Robb. In addition, everyone is now sheltered above the fourth floor, where they discovered there was no danger.

The cause of the fire has not been determined yet.
