ATLANTA — City officials held a ceremony to celebrate the beginning of the construction of the Atlanta BeltLine's Northeast Trail.
The trail begins at Marietta Boulevard and Huff Road intersection and will connect with the Westside Trail.
According to Clyde Higgs, the president and CEO, construction will not impact significant events the city is hosting and is expected to last for 14 months.
"We're going to have over 17 miles of mainline BeltLine trail completed by the first quarter of 2026, well above FIFA World Cup," Higgs noted.
The entire Northwest trail will extend 4.3 miles through twelve neighborhoods, including Loring Heights, Peachtree Hills, and Lindbergh/Morosgo.
In addition, Atlanta officials say, "the expansion will also help focus on the city's economic development and affordable housing."
