Here's when Atlanta's City Council says BeltLine construction will be done

The years-long project was among several topics discussed by the Atlanta City Council during its meeting.

ATLANTA — Construction on Atlanta’s BeltLine trail is expected to be completed by 2030.

Atlanta City Council announced what's left in the years-long project and when residents can enjoy the extra space. Councilmembers outlined the final plans during its regularly scheduled meeting.

Here's what's left.

Roadwork on Southside trail starts in March

Officials said construction on the Southside trail will start March 13, specifically on segments 4 and 5.

These segments run along Boulevard and Glenwood Avenue, according to the Atlanta BeltLine website. In addition to roadwork on the southside trail, the northeast trail will be finished this year.

The work is part of an ongoing project to connect neighborhoods previously separated by infrastructure, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said. Dickens discussed the project at a ceremony marking the completion of work on the BeltLine's westside trail in October 2022.

Housing development along the BeltLine

The council also announced that land was acquired for housing development along the BeltLine. The land resides in South Buckhead, in the areas of Piedmont and Garson.

Supporting small businesses

Council members said that a grant amounting to just under $800,000 will be used to support small businesses along the BeltLine.

In addition the grant, the council has developed a business incubator space, or BeltLine Marketplace, where shipping containers are used as storefronts for small businesses.  A similar method was used to boost Black-owned businesses in April 2022.

Once construction is finalized on the 22-mile loop, the Atlanta BeltLine hopes residents living along the project will have access to "affordable housing, economic development and a healthy lifestyle."
