Vacant for almost a decade, Atlanta Civic Center poised for redevelopment

The application provides an initial idea of the project's size and components, but does not suggest it has financing.

ATLANTA — Editor's note: The video above is from previous coverage.

After lying vacant for nearly a decade, Atlanta Civic Center is poised for a nearly $600 million revival.

The first phase of the proposed 1.8-million-square-foot project would include a 148-unit multifamily building along Pine Street, according to a permit application developers filed requesting a meeting with the City of Atlanta.

The application provides an initial idea of the project's size and components, but does not suggest it has financing. New development will remain challenging in the current high interest rate environment where lenders are hesitant to finance real estate developments.

The filing comes day after the Atlanta Housing Board of Commissioners approved an agreement with Atlanta Civic Center Partners LLC, or CCP, a group of three companies that includes Republic Properties, the Michaels Organization, and Sophy Capital.
