ATLANTA — “It’s like a slum. We call ‘em slumlords” - This is what one resident told 11Alive regarding her frustration with the living conditions at the Woodland Heights apartment complex on Center Street NW.
She’s lived here for more than a decade and believes most of the units are unsuitable for people.
“We have mold in the house. We have sewage problems. If you complain, the management isn’t going to do too much. It's like they change management every three months,” the resident added.
The apartment complex is managed by FPI Management, which, according to its website, operates more than 160,000 properties.
But residents say the company is falling short of its obligations.
“The management don’t give a damn because it's not their children. It's not the people they know that live out here, so they don’t care. They are going to pack it up and go on about their business,” another resident told us.
On Wednesday, the City of Atlanta plans to hold a civil violations hearing in municipal court.
A notice for the hearing states at least one of the properties at 2500 Center Street NW is "in violation of the Atlanta housing code.”
If the complex is found to be in violation, they’d need to make “abatements” to the property or face a one-thousand-dollar fine for each day it’s out of compliance.
From the beginning of our coverage of this story, we have attempted to contact FPI, first in January and again today. We haven’t heard back.
