New curfew for E-scooters in Atlanta | Details

The new curfew only lasts two hours, from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. The previous curfew was from midnight to 4 a.m.

ATLANTA — Atlanta City Council voted this week to update the curfew on when people can ride E-scooters and E-bikes.

The new curfew only lasts two hours, from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. The previous curfew was from midnight to 4 a.m.

Back in 2019, the City of Atlanta put a curfew in place after multiple accidents involving E-scooters.

In recent years, there has also been an upward tick in crimes involving e-scooters. Atlanta Police previously said they've been monitoring an increase in ridership of e-scooters since 2021 and a corresponding increase in crimes involving scooters.

“It’s easy access," APD Deputy Chief Prenzinna Spann previously said. "You can get around the city fairly well on them. The range of motion they can go, they’re 15 miles per hour. You can ride them through the street, through the sidewalk, alleys, different areas not normally traveled by a vehicle.”

In 2021, the police department also previously warned about thieves targeting drivers to steal cars while riding scooters in what were called "bump-and-run accidents."

However, Atlanta City Council members now say new bike lanes have made Atlanta's streets safer for E-scooters after dark.
