ATLANTA — Centennial Olympic Park's iconic Fountain of Rings is getting a multi-million dollar facelift.
On Tuesday, the Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) announced a $2.5 million modernization of the historic fountain through a grant from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, marking the first major upgrade since 2007.
The upgrade focuses on enhancing operational reliability and guest experience with updated technology, controls, water valves, and lighting. It also repairs the fog system and enables remote system access.
"The Fountain of Rings is the centerpiece of Centennial Olympic Park and one of the most photographed landmarks in Georgia," said Frank Poe, executive director of GWCCA. "We extend our deepest gratitude to the Woodruff Foundation for their generous support and longstanding commitment to Centennial Olympic Park. These enhancements will not only preserve an iconic symbol of Atlanta’s Olympic heritage but also elevate the visitor experience, ensuring the Fountain of Rings remains a cherished attraction for years to come."
Work is set to start in August of this year and conclude by December.
Additionally, the Park's visitor information center is undergoing renovation and is expected to reopen in mid-July.
The revamped center will feature a dual-purpose facility with an operations outpost and a dedicated exhibit celebrating the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. The exhibit will showcase local memorabilia and provide detailed information about the historic event, preserving its legacy for future generations.
