According to an APD statement, it happened around 2 a.m. Responding officers found the sergeant, whose identity was not released, after he "sustained an accidental gunshot wound to the leg."
"Units on scene applied a tourniquet to his leg, and he was transported to Grady in stable condition," the APD statement said. "Preliminary investigation indicates the Sergeant was submitting a recovered firearm into evidence when it accidentally discharged, striking him in the leg.
