"August 13, 2016, The day that forever changed our world. It is the day that Reese and our family started to beat cancer."
Those were the words of Star 94.1’s Jenn Hobby as she began to detail the news on her fan Facebook page, revealing that her youngest child, 10-month-old Reese, had been diagnosed with cancer.
On August 7, Hobby first publicly shared that Reese had been ill. Hobby wrote on her Facebook page, "We've had a crazy week in and out of the hospital with our baby girl, Reese. She's struggling with some bladder issues, but she's home resting and recovering now. We are hopeful to find more answers this week. See more of the post, here.
But, a week later, Hobby would announce that doctors had concluded Reese's illness was due to cancer. Hobby detailed the devastating ordeal with fans, just two days after getting the diagnosis from a doctor at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
"Saturday morning, Reese had an MRI of her pelvic region. The initial scan would reveal a large mass. One hour after our lil angel went back for a routine MRI, the doctor would sit knee to knee with us and tell us Reese has cancer.”
Hobby’s co-host at Star 94.1, Jeff Dauler, made a post on Instagram in support of Hobby and her family. And on the air, with tears and resolve, he called on listeners to support Reese and all other children fighting cancer.
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 10,000 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer every year, and 80 percent of them survive at least five years, with survival rates increasing every year.
