Atlanta woman killed after being thrown from personal watercraft in Miami

The passengers were on the personal watercraft when they were thrown from it.

MIAMI -- Two tourists, including an Atlanta woman, were killed Monday after they were thrown from a jet-ski after it struck a concrete bridge support.

According to 11Alive's NBC affiliate in Miami, the passengers were on the personal watercraft near Star Island when they struck the bridge archway that connects the island with the mainland's highway. Both victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, but died.

On Tuesday, authorities from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed the victims were 34-year-old Sabrina LaShea Daniels from Atlanta and 30-year-old Julio C. Monterio from Massachusetts.

"All of the members of the FWC want to express our sincere sympathies to the victims and families of the victims involved in this incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of them," the FWC said in a statement. "The FWC would like to take this opportunity to remind all boaters enjoying Florida’s beautiful waterways to do so safely."
