OAKWOOD, Ga. — An older woman who went missing from the Oakwood Village subdivision has been found dead, according to the Oakwood Police Department.

Betty Marie Ramey, 71, was located by a family member at the site of her disappearance on Wednesday morning. Police had been searching for Ramey, who was diagnosed with dementia and other health issues, since she was reported missing on August 27.

Ramey was last seen around 11 a.m. on the day she went missing from her apartment off McClure Drive. Officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 2 p.m. after Ramey’s sister reported her missing, noting she had stopped taking her medication and may have wandered off.

The Oakwood Police Department, assisted by the Flowery Branch Police Department, Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Gainesville Police Department, and the Georgia State Patrol Air Unit, conducted an extensive search of the area. Despite deploying a drone and a K9 team, the search was unsuccessful.

The investigation into her death is ongoing, and further information will be released as it becomes available. The Oakwood Police Department has asked the public to pray for Ramey’s family during this difficult time.
