11Alive Salutes historic South-View Cemetery, one of America's oldest African-American Cemeteries. Dr. Homer Nash, who served in World War I as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, is buried here.
Dr. Homer Erwin Nash, Sr. graduated from Meharry Medical School and came to Atlanta to begin his practice on Auburn Avenue. He enlisted in World War I as a 1st lieutenant in the United States Army Medical Corps. He served in France and was promoted to the rank of Captain before returning to Atlanta to continue his practice.
An active community volunteer, Dr. Nash served as staff physician to the children of the Carrie Steele Pitts Orphanage.
