ATLANTA — Update: The boil water advisory for cities that included South Fulton, Union City, Palmetto, Chattahoochee Hills and Fairburn has officially been lifted.
Original story: In response to a possible breach at a water main, the Department of Watershed Management (DWM) has issued a boil water advisory for a few cities within metro Atlanta.
Those include South Fulton, Union City, Palmetto, Chattahoochee Hills and Fairburn. The watershed department said the precautionary move is in response to a potential breach in a 30-inch transmission main at 1041 Fairburn Road, SW, causing water disruptions.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas may experience low or no water pressure. To ensure safety, all water for consumption, including drinking and cooking, must be boiled for one minute beyond boiling. Vulnerable populations like infants, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems should be particularly cautious.
Using public water fountains in the affected area is not recommended. However, you can safely practice handwashing and showers with tap water and soap for personal hygiene. When preparing food, use boiled and cooled water along with handwashing soap.
The boil water advisory will remain in effect until DWM confirms water safety through established protocols. Taking similar precautions is advisable for those outside the affected area affected by the current water outages.
DWM will continue to monitor water quality and seek guidance from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.
