Atlanta Braves Home Plate Project helps to fight food insecurity

The Atlanta Braves Foundation and Chick-fil-A distributed more than 300 boxes of frozen meat, fresh produce and dry goods at The Villages at Carver Family YMCA.

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves partnered with Chick-fil-A and other local organizations this week for the Braves Home Plate Project event. The organization handed out over 300 boxes of food at the event filled with fresh produce, frozen meats and dry goods, as well as hot lunches from Chick-fil-A.

The Braves Home Plate Project aims to help fight food insecurity in metro-Atlanta. For this month’s food distribution event, the Atlanta Braves Foundation partnered with Chick-fil-A, as well as MUST Ministries, CHOICES, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Urban Recipe and The Villages at Carver Family YMCA.

“I really think I have the best job in baseball – to be able to take Braves baseball and build community and give back is really a privilege,” said Danielle Bedasse, the Executive Director of the Atlanta Braves Foundation and Vice President of Community Affairs for the Braves.

Bedasse said she was one of more than 30 volunteers at the event on June 6. The Atlanta Braves Foundation hosts similar food distribution events throughout the year to service different parts of the Atlanta community.

The Braves Home Plate Project was founded in April 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic caused an increase in food insecurity needs. Since then, the Atlanta Braves Home Plate Project has distributed “thousands of pounds of fresh produce, frozen protein, and hot meals” to families throughout Metro Atlanta, according to its website

The next Atlanta Braves Home Plate Project distribution event will take place on July 11 at Pearson Middle School in Marietta. More information about future food distribution events can be found on the MLB website
