ATLANTA — A fire broke out Thursday morning at an apartment complex in DeKalb County leaving 18 families without homes, officials said.
SkyTracker11 saw heavy smoke coming from a three-story building. It happened at Briarcliff Apartments around 6:30 a.m., not far from North Druid Hills Road on Briarcliff Road. There were at least 20 fire trucks or ambulances on scene.
Fire officials said eight units are destroyed, but several others do not have power. There were no injuries, but a pet cat died in the fire.
A cause of the fire has not been released.
