ATLANTA — Atlanta native and former NFL quarterback Cam Newton is not pressing charges after he was involved in a fight at his 7-on-7 youth football tournament in Atlanta.
The video starts and shows Newton in a scuffle with several other people at the top of a set of steps before a third person runs and seems to throw an apparent punch toward Newton.
The scuffle then leads toward a fence line as the pushing and shoving continues for about 30 seconds before being broken up by a police officer and event security at his WeBall Sports x Dynasty 7v7 tournament at B.E.S.T. Academy off Northside Drive NW in Atlanta.
It does not appear that Newton throws any punches in the video but rather tries to get the three people off him before the fight is broken up. You can watch the altercation below, in which Newton can be seen in one of his signature custom-made hats.
Atlanta Police said that several of the people involved in the fight with Newton ran away from the scene. Newton and the other people involved in the fight who stayed around did not need medical attention or wish to file criminal charges, police said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.
Police said they did not know how the fight started.
Cam Newton, the former No. 1 pick out of Auburn University, is from Atlanta and attended Westlake High School. Newton won the 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player award.
His organization, C1N, was founded in 2021. It focuses on developing young athletes' skills in football and allows them to compete in 7-on-7 tournaments and other events, according to his website. Newton's 15-and-under team won the championship at this particular event.
