CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga.. -- Authorities have charged the 17-year-old driver involved in a June accident that killed his 16-year-old passenger.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Cameron Childers was driving on Hightower Road when his Dodge Ram pick-up truck left the road and went down an embankment, where it struck a tree.
Mahlon Thornton, a 16-year-old passenger in the truck, was killed. Thornton was a senior at Creekview High, according to his obituary.
On Friday, Oct. 27, authorities said Childers turned himself in after being charged with vehicular homicide, second-degree vehicular homicide, driving under the influence - drugs, reckless driver, weaving over the roadway and speeding.
Childers was released on $14,227 bond.
