Arson suspected in fire that incinerated car at Brookhaven gas station

At this time, police said they believe the incident to be a case of arson.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police believe someone may have intentionally set a car on fire near the gas pump of a Brookhaven-area gas station.

Photos and video from the scene showed the charred remnants of the incinerated car sitting next to one of the pumps at the Chevron gas station located at 2911 Buford Highway at the intersection of North Druid Hills, just about a mile off Interstate-85.

At this time, police said they believe the incident to be a case of arson.

11Alive called the gas station, and the store clerk told us -- and police confirmed -- that one was inside the car at the time of the fire. The clerk added that police were reviewing surveillance video from the business as part of their investigation.

Both the car and the gas pump appeared to have been gutted by the fire, to the point where it's possible to see straight through the interior of the car. There also appeared to be minor smoke and charring of the awning above the fire.

Police told 11Alive in a statement they have someone in custody in connection to the fire, but that person's exact involvement is unknown at this time.
