Carroll County sheriff warns of fundraising scam pretending to be for fallen deputy's services

The funeral for Investigator Taylor Bristow is on Thursday.

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is warning the public, who have been showing an outpouring of support after the death in the line of duty of Investigator Taylor Bristow, about a scam looking to take advantage of their generosity.

Investigator Bristow's funeral services are set to be held Thursday afternoon. He was shot while serving a warrant on Aug. 20, and died three days later.

The scam highlighted by the Carroll County Sheriff's Office is trying to capitalize on those services.

The sheriff's office on Facebook pointed to a fake page soliciting donations for the family.

The sheriff wrote: "**ALERT:** I am deeply upset to share that someone is attempting to exploit a tragedy for their own gain. This is a **SCAM** — please do not donate to it! Share this message to help prevent others from falling victim. We will conduct a full investigation into this matter. It is shameful that someone would do this during a time of mourning. Thank you for your support in stopping these evil actions."
