CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- A 15-year-old girl has died after being hit by a falling tree on Friday night.
Officials with Bartow County Emergency Medical Services said crews arrived around 11:30 p.m. to the Red Top Mountain State Park. There they found the teen girl who was unconscious and unresponsive with severe injuries to her head. Crews rushed the victim to Cartersville Medical Center in hopes of saving her.
Sadly, school officials at Harrison High School in Cobb County later confirmed that the victim, Joelle Dalgleish, succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.
"Joelle was a valued member of the Harrison community," Principal Ashlynn Campbell said. "We will remember Joelle as a generous young lady, whose smile and infectious laughter brought happiness to many students and teachers at our school."
Campbell added that councilors and a crisis team would be on hand Monday for students impacted by the tragic death.
