FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A 24-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday to burglarizing baseball legend Hank Aaron's southwest Atlanta home.
A Fulton County Superior Court judge sentenced Isiah Slaton to eight years in prison and 42 on probation for the crime.
According to information presented in court, Slaton and two co-defendants burglarized the house on July 14, 2013, while Aaron and his wife Billye were out of town. The trio ransacked the home and stole jewelry, including several baseball rings Aaron intended to donate to the Hall of Fame. They got away in the victims' two BMWs, both of which were later recovered.
In his victim impact statement, Aaron said he felt "violated" by the burglary, and called the stolen items "priceless." He said he was made aware of the crime when he received a phone call from his alarm company.
Slaton was convicted of burglary and theft by taking. The trial for one co-defendant, Amir Coleman, is scheduled to begin Tuesday; a court date for Edward Buford, the third defendant, has not yet been set.
