CHAMBLEE, Ga. — A popular park in Chamblee will soon undergo a major renovation, and it will be closed to the public for at least 14 months.
Dresden Park will close on May 28 and will be transformed through a multi-million-dollar project, adding new features like turfed fields, tennis courts, a dog park, a walking trail and much more. The renderings below show the planned changes for the park.
In February 2022, the Chamblee City Council approved $10.8 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds for the renovations. An additional $2 million was allocated in 2024 for the community building, bringing the total renovation cost to approximately $12.8 million.
“Funding was likely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” explained Chamblee Mayor Brian Mock. “It was important to us to see these funds spent in a way that would improve the quality of life in an underserved area for decades to come. The park being closed will be an inconvenience in the short term, but it will reemerge as the crown jewel of the neighborhood. Our kids deserve the best, and we intend to deliver facilities second to none.”
According to Parks, Recreate and Arts Director Jodie Gilfillan, contracted programming typically held a the park will be moved to Keswick Park or other privately owned fields.
During the closure, parkgoers are encouraged to visit other Chamblee parks for outdoor activities and family picnics.
The park is slated to reopen in May 2025.
