ATLANTA — A former Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputy is behind bars in connection to a federal child exploitation investigation on Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s office.
Steven Bunte, 40, worked for the Adult Detention Center in the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department for about five years before authorities fired him upon his arrest, authorities said in a news release.
Federal authorities arrested Bunte. However, Cherokee officials were also present at the time of the arrest.
According to Gordon County Jail records, where the former deputy is being held, authorities charged him with five counts of child porn and child exploitation.
A statement from the Sheriff’s Office said that they can not release any additional information as Bunte was arrested as part of a federal investigation.
