CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A Clayton County commissioner who was ousted last year over a controversial night is planning to resign from her District 3 seat.

Commissioner Felicia Franklin posted the resignation letter that she submitted to Gov. Brian Kemp on Monday to Facebook.

She added in her letter that her resignation is effective on June 30.

"I have enjoyed serving the citizens of Clayton County and our beloved State of Georgia. However, I have been presented an opportunity I must take advantage of at this time," Franklin wrote.

Franklin's resignation comes months after she was sanctioned and removed from her role of vice chairwoman after she made a social media post claiming she was drugged with a "date rape pill."

The board of commissioners said there was a video showing EMS attempting to put Franklin in an ambulance, where she became combative and refused evaluation in October. Board members also stated there was security footage from the bar and grill where Franklin alleges this all happened, showing she had several alcoholic drinks.

On top of that, a Morrow police investigation found there was no evidence to support her claim that she was drugged.

According to her bio, Franklin was in her second term as the District 3 commissioner before her resignation.

She led a charge to revitalize the historic Flint River community, opening a new community center and Boys and Girls Club during her tenure, her bio added.

Franklin ended her letter with excitement for her new opportunity and thanked those she was able to serve.

"As I embark on this exciting opportunity, I want to thank everyone in Clayton County, and the great state of Georgia for allowing the wonderful privilege to serve," she said in her letter.  "Governor, thank you for all you do and I wish you and all the amazing people I've served all the best for years to come."
