Deputy hit by vehicle while responding to crash scene where another Clayton County deputy’s car was rear-ended: authorities

Here's how both incidents unfolded.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — One crash scene where a Clayton County deputy’s cruiser was hit by a suspected DUI driver ended with another deputy – who was responding to the initial accident —being hit by another driver, authorities said.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, troopers responded to a crash at 5:13 p.m. on Forest Parkway at Southridge Parkway.

Inside of a Clayton County Sheriff’s Office vehicle were two deputies and an inmate, the sheriff’s office said. They were returning to the facility when their car was hit, the sheriff’s office said.

GSP shared that a Lincoln rear-ended the deputy car; authorities suspect the driver of the Lincon was under the influence.

About 45 minutes after the initial crash, the sheriff’s office said a deputy responding to the scene was hit by an elderly driver.

Troopers said a driver in a Mitsubishi Outlander didn’t slow down while approaching the scene and hit a deputy who was standing in the intersection.

The sheriff’s office said the deputy was taken to the hospital. The two deputies, detainee, and the driver of the Lincoln from the initial crash were also taken to the hospital.

Authorities said everyone is expected to survive.
