Clayton County officers form 'human ladder' to rescue elderly man from burning home

Two officers received minor injuries. The victim has since made a full recovery.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — When these officers realized there was someone still inside a burning home early Monday morning, they wasted no time working together to save his life.

Officers responded to the 50 block of Daniel Drive around 2:20 a.m. to reports of a residential fire. The home already engulfed in flames, the department reports their officers soon learned there was an elderly man who needed their help.

Risking their own lives - with two being injured in the rescue process, Clayton County Authorities said the officers formed a human ladder to get to the window. They then pulled the man, who was described as incoherent at the time, to safety.

"Due to the quick thinking and reaction by these officers, no lives were lost as a result of this devastating incident," the Clayton County Police Department said in a statement.

The elderly man was taken to a local hospital and has since made a full recovery according to police. The officers who were injured were treated at the scene.
